Shakespeare once said “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet.” Well dear old Mr. Shakespeare has been dead for 395 years now and have things changed. While ultimately a successful restaurant comes down to great food and amazing service an instantaneously recognizable name can sure bump your business to the next level.
There are many different ways to create a catchy restaurant names. The first and most obvious is to name it after the owner or the chef. Owner you say? Of course one of favorites has to be Ruth’s Chris Steak House which was founded when Ruth Fertel purchased Chris’ Steak house. Don’t forget Morton’s as another catchy restaurant names, and it’s not just steakhouses.
Now there are hundreds and hundreds of restaurant’s named after the Chef or Chef / owner; Bourdain’s, Daniell’s and Chef Boyardee (ok just kidding on the last one!).
Why this is a quick, catchy and easy way to name a restaurant you are really banking on that individual. If something should happen to that person, be it death, scandal or just really fall out of favor your restaurant may be in real trouble. One benefit is your restaurant could get huge if say the Chef gets a TV show or you have a great PR agent promoting the restaurateur in turn promoting your restaurant.
Now you can name your restaurant after your specialty or type of food you server. Think “Lobster Pot” if you are famous for your lobster or seafood in general. Naming your restaurant on a regional specific area “Cajun Central” if you specialize in Cajun food might be a way to go as well.
Now don’t forget imaginative or generally catchy restaurant names. “Suzy’s” is cute and there doesn’t’ even need to be a Suzy. How about “Corner Bistro” or “Down the Road Cafe?”
